Abuse Awareness Sabbath is a special day set aside by the General Conference each year to provide local churches with an opportunity to address the issue of abuse, to educate church members and leadership, and to let victims know that their church cares.

Over the past seven years the day has focused on domestic violence, incest, abuse of power, and abuse of the elderly. This year the focus is on Violence against Women.

There are times in all of our lives when we need to stop and think things over.  Are we prepared to do this when it comes to our spiritual life and relationship with God? Because He loves and wants the best for His children, God has appointed Clapton Community SDA Church to present the Stop! And Think It Over Evangelistic Campaign from 4-25 September 2010 at Clapton Community SDA Church, Chelmer Road, London E9 6AY. 

The speaker will be Donald Yearwood, an international evangelist, who will be presenting topics such as “Can The Bible Be Trusted?”, “Four Things That God Cannot Do”, “The King Is Coming”, and “The Seven Last Plagues”.

Sabbath programmes start at 9:30am for the morning programme, and 7:30pm for the evening programme.  Weekday programmes start at 7:30pm Sundays to Thursdays.  Nearest station (Overerground): Homerton, Bus Routes: 425 from Clapton Pond to Stratford Bus Station and 488 from Clapton Pond to Bromley-by-Bow (Tesco) alight at Homerton High Street (Hackney Hospital).

Les & Irma Ackie will share a series of interactive seminars exploring the principles of spiritually and emotionally healthy marriage; with plenty of opportunities for reflection and relaxation.

This is a training event for Adventist women on how best to reach Muslim women. This is a joint training event with the Womens Ministries department.

Saturday 23rd October is Children's Sabbath in the BUC, so remember to check the Children's Ministries page for help and ideas in planning a special programme for the children on this day.

Children's Sabbath is a yearly program designed to promote awareness of children's needs and our responsibility to meet those needs as a church family.

For 2010, the theme is: Speak, Lord! I'm Listening. Throughout history God has repeatedly called children into service for Him. Age is inconsequential when it comes to the calling of the Holy Spirit and the ability of a child to be obedient and respond to God's voice. Our heavenly Father goes to great lenghts to save us and to reach us, whether we are a child or an adult. It is our duty and privilege to say, 'Speak, Lord! I'm ready to listen.'

Children's Sabbath is traditionally scheduled to coincide with the end of Family Togetherness Week, which runs from Sabbath 16th-23rd October. However, you are welcome to use the programme outline below and other materials on the Children's Ministries web page (under the heading 'Childrens Sabbath 2010: Speak Lord! Im Listening') at any time that suits your church calendar.

The Family Ministry Certificate Training Course comprises ten modules covered on a two-year cycle.

This year we will present the following modules:

• Biblical Foundations for Family Ministry
• Interpersonal Communication
• Conflict Resolution
• The Family as a Centre for Evangelism
• Leadership in the Local Church

This course is not exclusively for FM Leaders, but is open to all who have a passion for family ministry. We welcome new applicants, as well as returning students who will graduate this year.

Core Skills is a certificate training course made up of six creative, thought provoking and interactive modules, designed to inspire and refresh participants. The modules will be taught over one residential weekend, and will equip leaders to present training at their local churches.
